Thank you so much for your interest in the larger size (51/2” or bigger) of Myler Bits. If you are unfamiliar with the Myler Bit system of bitting, allow us to make a few suggestions that will help you choose the right bit when you are starting your horse out.

1. If you have never used the Myler Bit system or used a Myler Bit on your horse, we would suggest you call us so that we can help you identify which bits would be best suited for you and your horse. Remember, the correct bit for your horse is one that will suit his age and experience and your driving experience. It is a combination of both, not just what works for the horse.



2. Once you receive your bit(s), you have approximately 10 days to 2 weeks to work with your horse in the new bit.



3. Should you need any help or are unsure whether you have chosen the right bit, please feel free to call us at Big Horse at our toll free number 877-BIG-HORSE (877-244-4677) . Our store hours are 8-6 Monday through Friday, 8-5 on Saturday, and 9-1 on Sunday, PST or feel free to call the dealer you have purchased the bit from.



4. All Myler Bits are handmade in the U.S.A. The mouthpiece is made of sweet iron with copper inlay for increased salivation for the horse. Sweet iron will rust and is porous and maintains a somewhat sweet taste in the horses mouth. Please do not try to clean the mouthpiece with any kind of chemical since it will change the “sweetness” of that iron into the taste of whatever cleaning agent you have used. If necessary, you can rinse any saliva off with water. The shanks are all stainless steel and will not rust. Therefore, anything the public sees, will always be shiny and presentable.



5. Upon special request you can order mouthpieces in stainless steel however it is believed that stainless steel limits salivation as compared to sweet iron. This is solely a personal choice.



6. Should you find that the horse is showing signs that this may not be the right bit for him/ her, please call us so we can more closely identify the problem and choose an alternative bit for him/her. The “signs” to look for are listed in the following “Suggestions for Starting Your Horse in a Myler Bit.” Our policy allows you to exchange the bit if returned within the two week period, until we find the right bit for you and your horse. These bits are not returnable but are exchangeable. Although the Elbow Military shanks are featured here in the catalog, all bits are available with Liverpool shanks.
